France faces an "autumn of discontent"

On August 26, Jin10 reported that Charlotte de Montpellier, an analyst at ING, wrote that France is heading into turbulent political waters after Prime Minister Borne called for a confidence vote for his minority government early next month. Borne is likely to lose the election, ending his brief tenure as Prime Minister. This presents President Macron with a choice: appoint a new government leader (who will face the same limitations in a divided National Assembly as Borne) or convene new parliamentary elections, the outcome of which is unpredictable. Either path will inject new uncertainty into an already fragile political landscape.
