Dormant Bitcoin Vaults Awaken: Nearly 1,800 BTC Move After More Than a Decade
The crypto world is buzzing after long-inactive Bitcoin wallets suddenly sprang to life, moving coins worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Since August 10, a series of transactions over four days transferred a total of 1,799 BTC – approximately $212.77 million USD.
Old 2012 Wallets Back in Action The first wave of activity began after our report on 400 BTC being moved from several addresses created in 2012. That very same day, another large transaction followed from a wallet labeled "17P8XS", sending 100 BTC from an address created on July 20, 2012. Hours later, between blocks 909724 and 909897, the same holder moved another 800 BTC, split into eight transactions of 100 BTC each. Over four days, these long-dormant wallets from 2012 transferred 900.5 BTC, worth over $106 million USD. Interestingly, even a small transfer of 0.50000904 BTC took place, showing that this activity isn’t limited to massive sums.
2013–2017 Wallets Join In During the same period, 17 wallets from 2013 also reactivated, moving 434.57 BTC (about $51.39 million USD), mostly in precise amounts of 25 BTC each. More recently created wallets from 2014 to 2017 also made their first-ever transactions, sending 464.11 BTC (around $54.88 million USD).
What’s Behind the Moves? Similar to the activity seen in July, when dormant Bitcoin movements stirred market discussion, August appears to be shaping up as another intriguing month for awakening BTC. Many long-term holders seem to be reacting to current price levels – with some likely choosing to cash out, while others may be relocating funds to safer or more modern wallets. One thing is certain – when wallets that have been untouched for over a decade start moving, they capture the attention of analysts, investors, and speculators alike. The big question remains: is this a one-off wave, or the start of a larger trend?
