Scroll zkEVM Guide: From Configuration to Experience On-Chain Games Full Strategy
Exploring Scroll zkEVM: A Beginner's Guide to Interacting with Ethereum L2 DApps
This article will introduce beginners to how to start using Scroll zkEVM and interact with Ethereum L2 DApp. We will demonstrate the operational process on the Scroll L2 network using a simple on-chain tic-tac-toe game as an example. These skills are also applicable to other Layer 2 networks.
Preparation: Install Wallet
First, you need to install MetaMask or a similar crypto wallet. If you have already installed MetaMask, you can skip this step. Otherwise, please install the appropriate version based on your device type.
Step 1: Configure the Test Network
Scroll zkEVM has currently launched the alpha testnet, which is a Layer 2 network compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). It connects to the Ethereum Goerli testnet and enhances scalability by batching transactions while retaining the security of Ethereum L1.
Visit the official Scroll website and follow the instructions to add the Scroll L2 network and Goerli testnet to your MetaMask.
Step 2: Obtain Test Coins
You need to get some Goerli testnet ETH from a faucet. There are several faucets to choose from, such as Alchemy's faucet, PoW mining faucet, etc. Choose one or more faucets to obtain enough test coins.
Step 3: Cross-chain Transfer
Use the bridging interface provided by Scroll to transfer some Goerli testnet ETH to an address on the Scroll L2 testnet. This process may take some time to complete.
Step 4: Experience On-Chain Games
You can now try playing the on-chain tic-tac-toe game on Scroll L2. Connect your wallet to the game page, create a new game, and invite friends (or use another wallet as an opponent) to participate. The game also includes a reset feature that allows you to restart if you make a mistake or don't want to lose the game.
Step 5: Explore More DApps (Optional)
If you want to experience more DApps and games on Scroll, you can visit the official DApp list page provided by Scroll, which gathers various applications running on Scroll L2.
By following these steps, you will be able to gain a preliminary understanding of how to interact with DApps on a layer two network like Scroll zkEVM. As technology continues to evolve, this experience will increasingly resemble that of using the mainnet, bringing better scalability and user experience to the Ethereum ecosystem.
