Date Set for the Highly Anticipated Ethereum Upgrade! - Coin Bulletin
The highly anticipated Fusaka hard fork upgrade of the Ethereum (ETH) network will be carried out in the third or fourth quarter of 2025, but the controversial EVM Object Format (EOF) update will not be included in this package.
Tomasz Kajetan Stańczak, one of the co-managers of the Ethereum Foundation, recently announced that the target date for one of the significant updates to the Ethereum network, the Fusaka hard fork, is aimed for the third or fourth quarter of this year. Although the exact date has not yet been clarified, it was announced that the update of the EVM Object Format (EOF), one of the most critical parts of the upgrade, has been excluded from the package due to technical uncertainties.
Ethereum core developer Tim Beiko stated that EOF was removed from the Fusaka upgrade, citing technical risks and the possibility of delaying the upgrade. The EOF includes a series of Ethereum Improvement Proposals designed for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EIP) (EVM) and aimed at making smart contracts run more efficiently. By standardizing smart contract codes called bytecode, EOF promised to process contracts more securely and quickly.
One of the important updates discussed under EOF was the removal of the dynamically operating and error-prone JUMP and JUMPI commands and the introduction of RJUMP and RJUMPI commands instead. With the new commands, it was planned to make smart contract bytecodes more secure, thus preventing unexpected errors and the insertion of malicious software within the codes.
EOF has both strong supporters and opponents in the Ethereum community. Ethereum developer Pascal Caversaccio argues that EOF is overly complex and will make the Ethereum network even more complex.
