Public Chain Wars: A Comparison of the Development Status of DePIN Projects on Mainstream Public Chains

The current development status of DePIN on different public chains

With the continuous development of the Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) field, major public chains are actively laying out related projects. Although the Solana ecosystem has recently received a lot of attention, some well-known DePIN projects have also begun to choose Arbitrum and Polygon as their underlying infrastructure.

At the same time, some public chains focused on DePIN (such as IoTex and Peaq) and L1 and L2 public chains actively developing in the field of artificial intelligence (such as Near and Aptos) are expected to continue to maintain growth momentum. Next, let's take a look at the development of DePIN projects on major public chains.

Inventory of Major L1/L2 DePIN Projects

Ethereum: Application Diversification

The DePIN projects on Ethereum exhibit diverse characteristics, covering multiple fields such as AI, WiFi, and streaming.

  1. ORA (AI Oracle): Developing opML, dedicated to bringing AI models to the blockchain. The project has received support from several well-known investment institutions.

  2. ATOR (WiFi Network): Users can earn token rewards by contributing bandwidth. Currently, there are 3,400 nodes with a market value of approximately $76.72 million.

  3. AIOZ (Comprehensive DePIN Solution): Provides a comprehensive solution including Web3 storage, decentralized AI computing, streaming, and video on demand. It has over 180,000 nodes and a market capitalization of approximately $510 million.

  4. Janction (AI Layer2): Provides traceable data input and GPU network services for small and medium-sized enterprises and startups.

  5. Deeper (decentralized VPN network): Users can earn token rewards by contributing idle bandwidth. With 150,000 nodes, the fully diluted valuation is approximately $23.47 million.

Solana: Leading Node Count

The DePIN project in the Solana ecosystem stands out in terms of the number of nodes.

  1. Helium (Wireless Hotspot Network): Users can earn token rewards by sharing bandwidth. It has over 1 million nodes and a market value of over 1.1 billion dollars.

  2. Render (GPU Network): Users can contribute idle GPU resources to complete rendering tasks and earn tokens. It has 3,783 nodes and a market cap of approximately $2.35 billion.

  3. HiveMapper (map data network): Users earn token rewards by contributing dashcam data. It has over 150,000 nodes and a market cap of approximately $169 million.

  4. DePHY (DePIN Infrastructure): Provides an integrated framework for developing DePIN projects.

  5. HajimeAI (AI sidechain): Committed to bringing multi-intelligent AI to the blockchain, users can provide computing resources for AI reasoning and training.

Polygon: High DePIN Activity

The DePIN project on Polygon shows a high level of activity.

  1. DIMO (Vehicle Sensor Network): Users can create and share verified vehicle data streams to earn tokens. It has approximately 110,000 nodes and a market cap of about $32.9 million.

  2. WIFI Map (WiFi Hotspot Network): Users can earn token rewards by contributing WiFi hotspots. It has 15 million nodes and a market capitalization of approximately 11.13 million USD.

  3. Geodnet: Users are rewarded by connecting GNSS antennas, applicable in fields such as agriculture and transportation. It has 8719 nodes and a market value of approximately 20.77 million dollars.

Arbitrum: Established Project Layout

There are some mature DePIN projects on Arbitrum.

  1. Livepeer (video streaming network): Nodes support video streaming services by contributing computing resources and bandwidth. It has 100 nodes, with a market cap of approximately $483 million.

  2. Wicrypt (WiFi sharing platform): Users purchase dedicated devices to share WiFi and earn token rewards. It has 1,832 nodes and a market value of approximately $1.49 million.

IoTex: Sensor Dominance

The DePIN project in the IoTex ecosystem mainly revolves around sensors.

  1. Wayru (WiFi Network): Users can set up nodes through dedicated devices or existing WiFi devices to share WiFi and earn token rewards.

  2. Inferix (GPU Network): Users can share idle GPU computing power to earn token rewards. It has 1533 nodes.

  3. PowerPod (Electric Vehicle Charging Station Network): Users purchase charging equipment and receive token rewards through sharing. It has not officially launched yet.

  4. Network3 (AI Network): Users can share bandwidth, computing power, and datasets to provide services for AI models, currently in the testing phase.

Peaq: Rich Innovative Use Cases

The DePIN projects in the Peaq ecosystem showcase a wealth of innovative applications.

  1. Natix (Real-time Map Network): Users collect geographic images through a dedicated camera program to build a real-time world map. Market value is approximately 19.18 million USD.

  2. Silencio (Environmental Sensor Network): Users can measure the surrounding noise pollution levels through their mobile phones and receive token rewards.

Overall, DePIN projects are showing a thriving trend on major public chains and are expected to play an important role in more fields in the future.

On-chain data suggests that this wave of DePIN migration is not simple... Some are reminded of last year's Solend incident.
