Bitcoin protocol Ordinals introduces recursive inscription feature

Recently, the new chief maintainer of the Bitcoin protocol Ordinals, Raph, merged an important update in the code repository, introducing the "recursive inscription" feature. This feature was proposed by Ordinals founder Casey Rodarmor and marks a significant breakthrough in Bitcoin inscription technology.

Recursive inscriptions are a new way of blockchain inscription, characterized by their ability to self-reference. Unlike traditional independent inscriptions, recursive inscriptions allow the use of special syntax "/-/content/:inscription ID" to call the content of other inscriptions, thus achieving connections and combinations between inscriptions.

This seemingly simple change brings great possibilities to the Bitcoin ecosystem. Taking NFT collections as an example, traditional methods require the inscription of thousands of complete image files individually, which is not only costly but also limited by image size. By using recursive inscriptions, creators only need to inscribe a small number of basic elements and then programmatically combine these elements to generate a large number of unique NFTs. This method not only significantly reduces transaction fees but also breaks through the size limitations of individual inscriptions.

Specifically, a typical NFT collection usually consists of dozens of interchangeable components, such as backgrounds, clothing, accessories, etc. The recursive inscription technique allows creators to upload only these basic components, and then generate complete NFTs by calling and combining these components through code. This method not only saves a significant amount of costs but also provides more flexibility for creativity.

The application prospects of recursive inscriptions are vast:

  1. Composable NFT: Artists can create secondary works based on existing pieces, greatly increasing the possibilities of artistic creation.

  2. Decentralized Websites: With the addition of the new "JS" and "CSS" inscription types, it is expected to achieve fully decentralized dynamic websites.

  3. NFT Fragmentation: Provides a technical foundation for the disassembly and more complex operations of NFTs.

  4. Innovative Domain System: Domain names may no longer point to just one address, but can host more content, such as web pages or NFTs.

Will recursive inscriptions trigger the next wave of excitement in the BTC ecosystem?

Although the concept of recursive inscription has just been proposed, it has sparked extensive discussion within the crypto community. Whether this technology can lead the next wave of enthusiasm in the Bitcoin ecosystem remains to be seen. However, the emergence of new technologies often gives rise to new opportunities.

For cryptocurrency enthusiasts and investors, it is crucial to maintain sensitivity and a spirit of exploration towards new things. Moderate research and participation in emerging technologies may lead to unexpected gains. With the development of recursive inscription technology, we look forward to seeing more innovative applications and breakthroughs.

Will recursive inscriptions trigger the next wave of hype in the BTC ecosystem?
