In response to the child hunger and malnutrition problems led by dire food crisis in South Sudan, Gate Charity has partnered with World Vision to launch the South Sudan Child Hunger and Malnutrition Project to provide critical food relief, medical aid, and long-term livelihood solutions to vulnerable children and families, aiming to save lives and restore hope where it’s needed most.
The world produces enough food to nourish everyone, yet 783 million people are still hungry. Among the most affected are children in South Sudan, where the food insecurity crisis has reached its worst state. Over 6 million people in the country face severe hunger, and more than 40% of children suffer from malnutrition, leading to stunted growth and life-threatening health conditions. This is not just a crisis—it’s a daily fight for survival.
Emergency Nutrition Relief: Saving Lives on the Brink of Starvation
To combat severe malnutrition, Gate Charity and World Vision are delivering Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) to children in urgent need, ensuring they receive the essential nutrients required for survival. Additionally, mobile medical units are being deployed to refugee camps and vulnerable communities, offering vital medicines, vitamins, and healthcare support to those with limited access to medical services. Recognizing the dire food crisis caused by rising prices and displacement, the project is also providing direct food aid and financial assistance to displaced families, helping them secure their basic nutritional needs.
At one of our mobile health centers, twin brothers Adam and Adeed were diagnosed with severe malnutrition. From that moment, our team remained by their side—monitoring their recovery, ensuring they received the proper treatment, and providing ongoing nutritional support. No child should have to face hunger alone, and together, we can change that.
Empowering Sustainable Livelihoods: Breaking the Cycle of Hunger
Hunger and malnutrition trap millions in a vicious cycle of poverty. When people are chronically hungry and malnourished, their bodies weaken, making them more vulnerable to disease. Illness strips them of the strength to work, forcing entire families deeper into poverty with no way out.
To break the deadly cycle, Gate Charity and World Vision aim to create long-term food security by equipping families with the tools and knowledge to sustain themselves. Beyond immediate relief, the project provides agricultural training programs, along with the distribution of drought-resistant seeds and farming tools, empowering communities to break free from the cycle of hunger and build a stable future. Through these sustainable measures, the project not only feeds the hungry but also equips families with the skills and resources to build a hunger-free future.
